The Chapter "0"

This is called Chapter Zero:
If you were to change one event or chapter from the Iliad, and replace it with your own story, what chapter or episode will that be?
Write your “version” of the story.
Narrate how it will affect the entire story or ending of the Iliad.

If I were to change one episode in the Illiad, I would change the episode were the goddess make the arrow missed hector. I would change it and make it hit hector, so when the arrow hit hector there is no more death in the Danaans. They could get Helen easily without having a hard time defending their camps, and easily defeating the Trojans.

If the arrow didn't missed Hector the war would end instantly even if the Gods didn't help the Spartans so Patroclos would not die in the chapter where he made his fight with the Myrmidons and where he died.

Patroclos the Noble Warrior And Comrade

Patroclos is a noble comrade and warrior. Do you agree? Prove your answer by citing details from the book.

I Agree!, I agree that Patroclos is a noble comrade because he wants to save the other danaans,
As an example I will let you read the lines of Patroclos when he wanted to go to war and ask permission to Achilles.

"Don’t be angry, Achilles my prince, our strong deliverer! Such misfortune has come on our people! There they are, all who used to be the best in the field, lying wounded, shot or stabbed, somewhere among the ships! Diomedes Tydeides is wounded, Odysseus is wounded, Agamemnon is wounded, and Eurypylos is wounded too — shot in the thigh with an arrow. They have the surgeons busy about them with all their medicines curing the wounds—but there’s no curing you Achilles! I pray I may never have such grudge in my heart as you have. Curse your courage! What good will you are to any one from now to the end of the world, if you will not save the nation from destruction? Cruel man! Your father was not Peleus nor your mother is Thetis—you are a son of the green sea and the stony rock, with that hard heart!
“if there is one prophecy you are afraid of which your mother told you from the lips of Zeus, let me go at least and take out our Myrmidons, to see if there is any hope in that way! Put your armour upon my shoulders, and perhaps the Trojans may think it is you, and give a
So he prayed, poor fool! For his prayer was destined to bring death and destruction for little rest to our tormented people. Little time to take your breath face to face with sudden death! And it will be easy for us coming into the battle fresh, to drive weary men from our camp away to their city!” himself.
And Achilles let him go and fight the trojans.

I also agree that Patroclos is a noble warrior because he slayed so many enemies in example I will let you read the line where Patroclos killed many man.

“Patroclos cut off the front of the routed army, and then drove them back towards the ships. He would not let them get back to their city, but kept them in the space between the ships and the river and the city walls, charging and slaying, until he had exacted the price of many lives.
First he stricken Pronoos and killed him, when the shield uncovered his chest. Next he drove at Thestor, who was crouching down in his chariot dazed with terror, the reins dropped from his hands. Patroclos came quite close and stabbed him in the right jaw through teeth and all, then dragged him gaping over the rail by the spear; rock lands a big fish with hook and line. Erylaos rushed at him, but Patroclos smashed his head to pieces in the helmet with a stone and brought him down. Then he attacked one after another Erymas and Amphoteros and Epalted, Tlepolemos Damastorides, Echios and Pyris, Ipheus and Euippos and Polymelos Argeades, and laid them all flat on the ground."

Is Achilles a good King and Warrior?

Analyze the character of Achilles as shown in Books 9-11. Are his decisions appropriate for a king like him? Why/ why not? What kind of warrior is he?

The character of Achilles as shown in books 9-11 is somehow caring, because even though he was angry with king Agamemnon he still comes to the war. And will help all the danaans from the forces of the Trojans. Achilles is a man who is brave and courageous man and he will help until he finishes the enemies off.

For me Achilles’ decisions are appropriate for a king like him, because all the kings would do the same thing what he did when he didn’t accept the gift from king Agamemnon. It is king Agamemnon’s fault because he took briseis from Achilles and he downgrade Achilles from the whole nation. But still the good heart of Achilles defeats his anger from his heart so he moved and help the danaans from falling from the hands of the Trojan forces.

Achilles is a brave warrior and he is the son of Thetis and Peleus so he is a demigod or a half mortal and a half immortal. Achilles is a good warrior too because even if he is angry with king Agamemnon he still comes to the war with his myrmidons and help the danaans or the Spartans from losing from the Trojans. Achilles is one of the greatest warrior of the Spartans almost all the warriors of the opposing nation feared him. He make the warriors trembles when he goes to the battle. Because he sacked many cities so they feared him because he might killed them as well. Achilles is also a kind hearted warrior because he wants to go to his own land to be peaceful but for his country he came back for the Spartans.

Timeless

Between Paris and Menelaus, who do you consider as a nobler/greater/more honorable man?
· What incidents support your answer?
· Who can be cited as a modern day Paris/Menelaus? Why?

- I consider Menelaus as the nobler, greater and more honorable man.
-What support my answer?
-I picked menelaus because even if he was cheated by Hector he still won the fight with out cheating, unlike paris he fled in the battle field to ask for help, But Menelaus wants to finish paris off so Hector cast his sword and thrust it to Menelaus but still Menelaus is the nobler, greater and more honorable man for me. Menelaus makes the greeks known for their power and courageousness because of Menelaus didn't give up until his last breath and he died with  honor.

-Who can be cited as modern day paris?
-i think it is our President Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III, because he won the elections without using any form of cheating. So i chose our President as the modern day Menelaus. unlike other  presidentiables they use   cheated but still the sayings " Cheaters Never Win!" makes it true again.

Even if others said that " He cheated!" he did not loose hope and still making the Philippines a better country. Therefore our President is making the Philippines known to the world. And I'm sure now that our President is the modern day Menelaus for his courageous soul.
